On this Friday, November 7th the chapter is co-sponsoring, with AAUP National, the NYM-CHE, and Columbia student organizations, a rally to protest the intrusion of wealthy corporations and oligarchs into university governance.

Tell Billionaire Marc Rowan: Hands Off Higher Ed!
No Compact
No Loyalty Oaths
No Oligarchs
Join faculty, students, alumni, and all defenders of higher ed to send a message to Marc Rowan, the billionaire behind Trump's compact for colleges and universities, outside his private equity firm, Apollo Global Management.
Defend the freedom to teach, learn, research, and speak out without government coercion or censorship. Reject racism, transphobia, anti-immigrant hate, and the suppression of political dissent, history, and science that the Compact threatens to bring to our campuses.
Columbia faculty and students will meet at 9:45am at the 116 Street and Broadway gates for a short rally and then travel together to 9 West 57 Street – the headquarters of Marc Rowan’s Apollo Capital Management.

AAUP@CU Chapter Committee Activities:
★ The Advocacy Committee continues its outreach and political work in NY District 17: Congressman Lawler's district. The AC is actively flyering in Ossining at the local farmers market (Saturdays). See the previous updates for additional info.
★ The Communications Committee and Organizing Committee have continued to develop a network of departmental liaisons to share information about the chapter's activities and developments on campus and within higher ed. These two committees also continue to work on disseminating the chapter's syllabus statement on academic freedom. The Communications Committee is also working with the Events Committee on the planning for a forum event on December 5 (stay tuned).
★ A report-back from the Coalitions Committee: on Tuesday evening, 10/28, the New York Metro Coalition for Higher Ed (NYM-CHE) convened about 150 activists from campuses across the NY-NJ region at the NYU. Our chapter is a founding member of the coalition, which mainly draws from AAUP, PSC and UAW chapters and locals. Cross-campus working groups met on:
Repression and disciplinary overreach on campus;
Governance and reforming our Boards of Trustees
Protecting our research
Labor and collective bargaining agreements
Building alliances with community organizations
